The Junior class of KA visited the Lee Tartt Nature Preserve for their community service project. They learned how the Preserve began and how vital it is to the community. The class was instructed on how to spot and remove invasive plants by James Harris, the LTNP project coordinator. The Juniors jumped right in to help remove these invasive plants from the swamp. A big shoutout to them for putting in the work!

What a great morning at the animal shelter! Students from Kirk Academy’s 7th grade class washed pens, cleaned bowls, picked up trash and fed the animals. They walked dogs, played and got in some sweet cuddles.  The shelter currently has only dogs but we took a variety of food and treats for both cats and dogs to help supply the shelter on into the year. Officer Michael Moore and his wonderful volunteers made us feel so welcome and appreciated. (I didn’t know everyone’s name.) The facility is brand new…donated by the Bissell vaccum cleaner company.  What an incredible blessing it is for the city of Grenada.  It is located right next to the old shelter by the airport. It is fully heated and has air conditioning!

Please join us tomorrow from 10:00-1:00 at the front entrance of our high school for our Team Cate Swab Event in support of Cate, who is bravely battling bone marrow failure. The process is simple- it takes just 5 minutes to swab your cheek and register as a potential bone marrow donor. We are inviting all parents, friends, and community members to come out and help us grow the donor registry. That small act could make a life-saving difference for Cate or someone else.

We are so proud to announce our 2025-2026 STAR Student, Parker Avant, and STAR Teacher, Mrs. Billie Young. Parker Avant, daughter of John and Melissa Avant, has been honored as STAR Student for achieving the highest ACT score in her graduating class. Some of Parker’s honors and activities include: member of National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Anchor Club, Spanish Club, K Club, Student Council, & FCA where she serves as the social media officer. Parker was voted Most Likely To Succeed, Most Dependable, and Most Talented for the school year. She is a Kirk Scholar, KA Student of the Month in 2024-25, Rotary Student of the Month in 2025, member of Phi Theta Kappa at HCC in 2025, named Delta Honor Graduate in 2026, and she also received the DAR Good Citizen School Award and was awarded DAR Regional Scholarship Winner. Parker has also received multiple awards for Varsity Track, Cross Country, Golf, and Basketball. We are so proud of Parker’s accomplishment and look forward to watching her achieve many more great things in the future! Parker has chosen Mrs. Billie Young, as her STAR Teacher recognizing her as the educator who has made the most significant impact on her academic journey. Throughout her many years at Kirk Academy, Mrs. Young has made many lasting impressions on her students in her classroom. Mrs. Young teaches 10th-12th grade Math: Trig/Pre Cal, Honors Calculus, and Honors Algebra II. She brings math to life with unmatched enthusiasm, turning every lesson into an opportunity for discovery and confidence building. Mrs. Young received her BS from the Mississippi University for Women. In her 34 years of teaching, Mrs. Young has been awarded STAR Teacher twice in the years of 2020 and 2022.

Reminder about our upcoming ACT: The ACT will be on Tuesday, March 24th at HCC & students need to be at school at 7:30am to load the bus. Students are to wear jeans or khakis with a KA sweatshirt or t-shirt. Remember to bring your calculators and pencils.
